Sanibel Island Coastal Boardwalk & Amenity Restoration
A Beachfront Boardwalk Rebuilt For Coastal Conditions
A Sanibel Island condominium community engaged United Construction to evaluate the beachfront boardwalk connecting its pool area to the beach. As one of the most heavily used features on the property, the walkway needed an honest assessment of its condition before any decisions about repair or replacement could be made.
What we found called for more than a surface level fix. In a beachfront environment, where constant exposure to salt air, moisture, and the elements accelerates material degradation, a lasting solution required addressing the structure at its core.
SITE ASSESSMENT AND STRUCTURAL EVALUATION
Our initial site assessment revealed substantial deterioration throughout the existing wood framing, compromising the structural integrity of the walkway. The decking surface showed extensive damage as well, with wear consistent with years of direct exposure to a coastal setting.
Repairing the decking alone would have left the underlying problem in place. Because the framing carries the walkway, the condition of that framing determined the scope of the project and the approach our team recommended to the community.
FULL REMOVAL AND BOARDWALK RECONSTRUCTION
Our team carefully removed the existing decking and compromised framing, clearing the way for a complete reconstruction rather than a patchwork of isolated repairs. Working in an active residential community on the beach required a controlled, organized approach throughout the demolition phase.
With the site prepared, we reconstructed the boardwalk with a renewed structural system designed to provide strength, stability, and long term reliability. Decking materials were selected specifically for the demands of a beachfront location, where salt air and moisture are constant rather than seasonal.
SHELL WASHING STATION, FILLET TABLE, AND OUTDOOR SHOWER
In addition to the reconstruction and new decking, we incorporated a custom shell washing station, an integrated fish fillet table, and a new outdoor shower. These are thoughtful amenities that enhance the property’s connection to the beach and better accommodate the everyday needs of residents and guests.
Each addition was built into the finished walkway so the boardwalk functions as a complete amenity space rather than a passage between two points. For a community where the beach is the reason residents are there, details like these carry real day to day value.
A BOARDWALK BUILT TO PERFORM
The result is a completely revitalized beachfront transition space, structurally renewed, visually refreshed, and purposefully designed for life in a coastal setting. By combining sound construction practices with durable material selection and practical enhancements, we delivered a boardwalk built to perform.
This project reflects the same approach we bring to outdoor living and structural work across Southwest Florida, including our Sanibel pool house reconstruction and ongoing Sanibel exterior renovation and structural repairs.
